Terms and conditions
The agreement between you and Savanna Time. Written to be understood, because terms nobody reads protect nobody.
The short version
It is free. It is early software, so it may break. Your data is yours and we claim nothing over it. Do not use it to secretly monitor other people. We cannot promise it will always be available, and our liability is limited accordingly.
1. Agreeing to these terms
By downloading, installing or using Savanna Time, you agree to these terms. If you do not, do not use it. Where you use it on behalf of an organisation, you confirm you are allowed to accept these terms for that organisation.
2. What the service is
Savanna Time has two parts, and they stand alone:
- The desktop application, which records your activity locally and requires no account.
- The hosted dashboard and API, which are optional and only apply once you create an account and choose to sync.
You may use the desktop application without ever accepting a hosted service, and it will keep working.
3. Price
There is no charge, no trial period and no payment details are collected. We may introduce paid features later; if we do, what you already rely on will not be moved behind a paywall without notice and a reasonable transition.
4. Your account
Keep your password to yourself and your email address current. You are responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us promptly if you believe it has been accessed by someone else.
Accounts are for individual people. Do not share one between several people, and do not create one for someone else without their knowledge.
5. Tracking other people
This is the term that matters most in a product of this kind, so it is stated plainly rather than buried.
Do not install or configure Savanna Time to monitor another person without their knowledge and agreement. Not a partner, not a family member, not an employee. Where you deploy it in a workplace, the people being tracked must know it is running, and you are responsible for meeting whatever consent, notice and employment-law obligations apply where you are.
The product is built to make covert monitoring difficult — team members share nothing until they choose to, window titles are never exposed to teammates, and privacy exclusions belong to the person being tracked. Do not attempt to work around those protections. We will terminate accounts used for surveillance of people who have not agreed to it.
6. Acceptable use
Do not:
- break the law with it, or use it to harass, stalk or intimidate anyone
- attempt to access another user's data, or probe the service for weaknesses other than through a good-faith security report
- overload, disrupt or attempt to circumvent limits on the hosted service
- resell or rebrand the hosted service as your own
Good-faith security research is welcome. Report it privately as described on the contact page and we will not pursue you for it.
7. Your data stays yours
You own the activity data you record. We claim no ownership of it and acquire no right to use it for anything beyond operating the service for you. Specifically, we do not use it to train machine learning models, we do not sell it, and we do not share it with advertisers.
By choosing to sync, you grant us only the permission technically required to store, process and display your data back to you — and to share exactly what you have chosen to share with a team you have chosen to join. That permission ends when you delete the data.
How all of this is handled in practice is set out in the privacy policy, which forms part of these terms.
8. Early software, provided as is
Savanna Time is early software and is provided "as is", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose. Some builds are explicitly labelled as untested on the downloads page; installing one is a choice you make with that information.
We do not warrant that tracking will be complete or uninterrupted, that the productivity figures are suitable for billing, payroll, performance management or legal evidence, or that the software is free of defects. Check anything that matters before you rely on it.
9. Your local data is your responsibility
The desktop application stores its database on your own computer. We have no copy of it unless you sync, cannot recover it for you, and are not responsible for its loss through disk failure, an uninstall, or anything else. If it matters to you, back it up.
10. Availability and changes
The hosted service comes with no uptime guarantee. We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of it. If we discontinue the hosted service altogether, we will give reasonable notice and a way to retrieve your data — and the desktop application will continue to work locally regardless, which is much of the point of building it this way.
11. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect, incidental or consequential losses, for lost profits or business, or for lost or inaccurate data, arising from your use of Savanna Time.
Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded — including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, in which case those exclusions do not apply to you and your statutory rights as a consumer are unaffected.
12. Ending it
You may stop using Savanna Time at any time; uninstall the app, and use the contact page to delete your account if you have one. We may suspend or terminate an account that breaches these terms — in particular section 5 — and will explain why unless doing so would be unlawful or unsafe.
13. Third-party services
If you connect an external service such as WakaTime, your use of it is governed by that provider's own terms. We are not responsible for what a third-party service does, and connecting one is always your decision.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. The date at the top will change, and account holders will be notified of material changes before they take effect. Continuing to use the service afterwards means you accept the updated terms.
15. Contact
